The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Aquatics Resources office is investigating the appearance of more than a dozen dead porcupine fish, called kokala in Hawaiian, at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park Monday.

DAR biologist William Walsh said the fish have had all of their fins removed, likely by being cut. He said he did not believe the fins came off naturally.

He asked for anyone with information about the incident to call DAR at 327-6226.
